Writing Life

Hello, December! (An Update)

Remember me? It’s been a while, but I wanted to pop in and say hello to my bookish friends.

It’s been more than six months since my last post here, where I indicated I’d be taking a break from blogging. Several times, I almost posted, but I think deep down I knew I needed that time away. And a few times, I almost deleted the blog entirely… but I think deep down I knew I wasn’t totally done with it yet, either.  🙂

So, what now? Well, I have a few thoughts.

I’d like to pop in here now and again, but it may not be regularly just yet. A lot of my content will be similar to what you’ve seen here in the past. I might do a “Friday Favorites” type post, or maybe a reading wrap up. Maybe a book review every now and again (because I still can’t resist a great book) or a gift guide at the holidays. But here are a couple of things I’ve decided to change:

1. I’m not going to be doing posts about blogging, social media, and the like. I enjoyed writing those when I was blogging regularly, but things are shifting, and that isn’t going to be my focus.

2. I’m probably going to occasionally add some material about writing… specifically, the writing process, resources for writers & authors, etc.

And here’s the big one… can you keep a secret? (Oh, of course not, and I suppose that’s not the point of posting here…)

3. Eventually, I’m going to expand this website into my author site as well. Because…

I’m writing a book.

Really, not just writing. Mostly written. That’s how I’ve been spending my time the last few months. I’m now working on the final scenes, and planning to have my first draft completed within the next couple of weeks. I’ll be editing for a while, then consider options for publishing and see about next steps.

So what’s the book, you ask? It’s a sweet, Hallmark-style romance about a gal who loses everything, moves back home, and discovers her new life. My working title is The Art of New Beginnings, and this is the first time I’ve ever shared that. I’ll be sharing more as I move through the process, and with any luck, I’ll eventually tell you where you can find my book. (It’s still a little surreal to say those words!)

As a reminder, you can find me occasionally on Instagram, and almost every darn day on Twitter. (Love my #WritingCommunity friends!)

Thank you for all the posts you’ve read, the encouragement you’ve shared with me, and the interaction I get with many of you on other sites. I hope you’ll stick around and follow this journey. I think I finally know what I’d like to be when I grow up, and I’m making it happen. Stay tuned, friends!

Much Love,

Cris

  1. Squeee!!!!!! I am so excited for you!!! It’s amazing that you’ve written a book! What a wonderful way to spend your time away. 🙂

I was also so excited to get a new blog update from you. I’ve wondered what you’re up to these past few months. I think we started blogging around the same time, and I’ve been battling some serious burn-out, on and off, the past few months. I’ve thought about you and your brave decision to go on hiatus a lot. I’m actually taking a small break until February once my December posts wrap up. The blogger life is so hard to maintain, and I sometimes think about scrapping it all together, too, just like you. But, also like you, I know that I can’t do that. I love writing, sharing, and reading. I just hate the marketing part of blogging, lol. I am panning to use my time away to refocus on why I started writing my blog in the first place–to write, not to market. I think it will help. 🙂

Anyhoo!! I’m glad your time away led to a new creative pursuit. Congrats on your first novel! I’m awful when it comes to  using Twitter, but I’ll try to find your posts more often there so we can talk writing. I’ve not had luck publishing my first novel, but, strangely, I’ve started working on my second, lol. I think I need to go back and do some tweaking of my first novel, too. Getting published is rough, so it would be great to have another person to commiserate with! 🙂

I can’t wait to receive more updates from you on your novel, getting published, writing resources, and what you decide to do with your blog. Welcome back!! xoxo

    1. We sound like we’re VERY much in the same place! It is hard to keep up and if you’re not enjoying it, it takes such a toll. Thank you for the encouragement and well wishes… yes, definitely find me on Twitter! And good luck as you launch into your next book! ❤️
