Friday Favorites

Friday Favorites – 12/14/18

So here we are, just about halfway through December.  Most of my Christmas shopping is done, but I haven’t wrapped a darn thing yet.  I should get that done this afternoon, I thought.

Then I said to myself, “Self, you can wrap later.  Let’s do a Friday Favorites post instead.”  And now you’re caught up on my day, LOL!

Anyway, let’s get to it… here are some things I have been loving this week!

Puffin “Book to Table” Classics

I was browsing Amazon the other day (for various editions of A Christmas Carol) and stumbled across these lovely new editions of classic literature.  Puffin Book to Table Classics take a piece of classic literature, and intertwine it with lovely photography and illustrations, then add in recipes to coordinate with the book’s theme!

There are only two titles in this series right now, but I’m hopeful they will add more, because I think I need a vast collection of these!  Anyway, you can get started with these beautiful options!

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens  –  The classic Christmas tale with amazing recipes for your holiday dinner, by Martha Stewart, Ina Garten, Giada De Laurentiis, and Trisha Yearwood.  Talk about a power-packed menu!

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen  –  The original tale of Elizabeth and Darcy, complete with ideas for a modern teatime by the inimitable Martha Stewart!

TV Christmas Specials

We’ve talked about Hallmark at Christmas, but let’s take a moment to give thanks for all the other wonderful holiday content that airs this time of year.  From classic movies to animated specials… from Christmas at Rockefeller Center, to my personal favorite, A Charlie Brown Christmas… our TV’s are flooded with festivities.

You can probably browse any night of the week and find great options, but if you want some help, here’s a handy list from TV Guide detailing all the options on streaming, network, and cable.  Some of them have come and gone but there’s a boatload of great programming yet to come over the next couple of weeks!

Snowman Holiday Decor

Everyone seems to have a decorating theme at Christmas… for some, it’s angels, or Santas, or those creepy Nutcracker things (in case you were wondering where I stood with those).  For me?  It’s always been snowmen!

Now the funny thing is… I don’t really even like snow that much!  Give me a dusting around Christmastime, clear it out by New Year’s, and I’m good for the season!  But for some reason, I’ve always gravitated toward snowmen and snow families for Christmas.

(Maybe it’s partly laziness, and you can leave them up for a few extra weeks?  I can’t totally rule out that being part of it.)

Here’s one of my favorite pieces… I fell in love with this because it signifies our family of three, and it’s become a pretty special keepsake:

So those are my (mostly Christmas themed) Friday Favorites for the week!  I’m curious about your holiday, so in the comments, let me know what your favorite TV holiday special is, or what kind of theme you have for your Christmas decor.  Or both!  Happy reading!  (I guess this means I’m free to go wrap presents now??)

December on my blog will bring lots of fun content… I’m participating in #Blogmas, which is a big deal in the blogging world, as well as Bookending Winter through Bookend Events.  Look for gift guides, Christmas book recommendations, holiday favorites, and more!
