If you’ve been following The Biblio Blonde for a while, you may remember a post in the not-too-distant past that explained how Pinterest isn’t so much a social media site, but more of a giant search engine.
Well, buckle up, friends!
Pinterest has been slowly rolling out a new feature called Communities. And guess what? It means that while Pinterest is still the search engine you know and love, they’ve now added a component for…
Well. So pinners, what does this mean for our Pinterest experience?
Right now, it doesn’t *have* to mean much of anything. As I said, they are slowly rolling it out. In fact, there hasn’t been a ton of publicity around the feature, and a few people I’ve talked to had no idea it even existed. If you haven’t been invited to a group, or followed a link someone shared, you likely haven’t seen anything!
So far, Communities is a little like the Wild West: the path to get there is unfamiliar territory, and no one is sure of the rules. But this has the potential to change a lot about how Pinterest works. I haven’t set up a community yet, but have joined a couple… I want to get my feet wet and see how this adds value before deciding what to create.
I read several posts trying to make sense of the new feature, and the best one I’ve found is by the Pingel Sisters. Rather than reinvent the wheel, I’m going to direct you to their very thorough write-up, and I would highly recommend reading it before you give this a whirl: Pinterest Community FAQ’s
If you want to join a community and try this out, you can wait for an invite, or you can use the link in the above post… though that is a book blogger’s group so it won’t apply to everyone. As new as this feature is, there are not a large number of communities just yet. Here’s another link that anyone can use… it’s a community where you can ask questions and get information about… communities!
I can’t wait to see where this goes! If you’ve joined Pinterest Communities and have thoughts, please feel free to share in the comments… and maybe I’ll see you over on Pinterest!
